Researching how to use a weed grinder? Grinders can be purchased at any head shop or smoke shop you come across, or online from one of the retail outlets. They come in a range of shapes and sizes, ranging from simple cannabis graters to multi-chamber grinders. This lesson demonstrates how to use the most common type of cannabis grinder: a four-piece grinder with a kief collection. Later on, we'll go over some helpful cannabis grinder strategies for getting the most out of your favorite strain. But first, let's discuss why people use marijuana grinders.

What is a Weed Grinder and Why Do You Need One in the First Place?

A grinder, as the name implies, is a tool for breaking down your weed into little pieces for easier use in a bowl or for wrapping it in blunt wraps and rolling papers. There are several ways to ground cannabis without using a grinder, however grinders make the process go more quickly and easily. Plus, they include extras like kief catchers to ensure that you get the most out of your stockpile. A kief catcher is a device that gathers all of the strong cannabis resin that is knocked off the buds when they are ground. It is commonly found at the bottom chamber below the screen. Kief can be scooped out of the grinder and sprinkled on top of your joint or bowl, or it can be saved and used later.

The grinding chamber containing the blades (or "teeth") is positioned above the screen in the space above the screen. The grinding chamber completes the crumbling process by attaching the lid to its top. A magnet is usually included with metal grinders to ensure that your cannabis does not fall out during the grinding process.

Open the top lid first. Only use your fingers to break up larger chunks and position them between the grinder's teeth, not the grinding bowl's edges, if necessary. It's pointless to put any nugs in the center because that's where the magnet pivots. Nothing will be shredded in the middle.

Replace the top of the grinder and rotate it 10 times clockwise or counterclockwise. Repeat until all of the bud has fallen through the holes or the ground herb has reached the desired consistency. Remove the top and gently tap it against the side of the grinder to dislodge any sticky bits lodged in the teeth.

Unscrew the chamber to uncover the basket layer, which contains your freshly ground cannabis. Now it's time to put it in your pipe, vaporizer, or blunt.

With a piece of paper or the scraping-tool provided, scrape some out of the kief you've accumulated in the bottom-chamber. Remember that kief can be sprinkled into your pipe bowl or vaporizer for more potent natural effects, or it can be saved for later use.

You may find that the revolving action of your grinder becomes more difficult with time. This indicates that it should be cleaned. Rub the grinder pieces with warm water and a cleaning solution comprised of isopropyl alcohol and salt to remove the stickiness. With a clean toothbrush or beard brush, remove any loose dried herb or kief from the screen.
